Five Generations

The Seadrone was built in 1900 on a parcel of land later owned by Orville Morrill. Orville and his family purchased the property in the 1940s and built the three cottages now at The Seadrone today as well as the former neighboring house. It is told that part of the purchase of the land involved a trade for one of Orville’s paintings and a handshake (in true Mainer fashion). Orville, an avid outdoorsman and hunting guide, vacationed on Ocean Avenue and often chose to stay in Cottage 3 for its privacy and spectacular marsh views.

His daughter Natalie and her husband, Jerry, moved back to the property after their retirement in the 1980s and began sharing the cottages with visitors again. Natalie and Jerry were a mainstay of the community. Jerry, the well-known and beloved custodian of the Ogunquit elementary school, and Natalie, a keen quilter and artist, greeted guests with all the warmth in the world. Natalie continued to operate the cottages until her passing in 2016 with the help of her niece, Judy.

Judy and Moody Beach’s favorite pooch, Yogi Bear, are always on site to greet their guests with the same friendly, welcoming spirit of Natalie and Jerry. Judy also began major renovations of the property after Natalie’s passing including a complete renovation of cottage 4, an expansion and update of cottage 2 and a renovation of cottage 3’s main level. Judy has now handed over the operational reigns to her cousin, Danielle.

As a child, Danielle visited every summer with her family - staying in cottage number 4. Now, Danielle and her husband, Zak, have introduced their children, Posie and Jack, to beautiful Moody Beach. Danielle and Zak continue to help modernize the cottages. All three cottages have high speed internet, booking is now available online and are working with Judy to continue to make improvements.
